What fabric is used for face masks?
You want your mask to keep you as safe as possible and for the material to effectively lower the transmission. So what fabric should you use to create your washable face coverings? According to research conducted by the CDC, tightly woven cotton or twill, quilted cotton or natural silk are all suitable materials.
Fabric masks should be made of three layers of fabric:
- Inner layer of absorbent material, such as cotton.
- Middle layer of non-woven non-absorbent material, such as polypropylene.
- Outer layer of non-absorbent material, such as polyester or polyester blend.
